Message From the Head

Thankyou for taking the time to visit our website which gives an overview of our school.

We are based in County Durham and cater for around 100 secondary school aged students altogether, who have severe difficulties in managing their emotions and behaviour. This consists of Key Stage 3 and 4 provision at our main school site in Chilton for 80 students and PACC provision for 20 Key Stage 4 students in a separate building, close to Durham city. We also offer residential provision to 20 students, from Monday to Thursday and run extended evening provision on the same days.

Many of our students are referred to Windlestone with negative perceptions of school and of education. We aim, over time to develop positive relationships with them and run an innovative curriculum which encourages them to re-engage with learning and start to experience success.  As a result Windlestone students learn how to treat themselves and others with respect and how to manage their emotions and behaviour more effectively.

All of our staff team work tirelessly to improve the life chances of our students.

All of our staff team work tirelessly to improve the life chances of our students. We aim to develop resilience and raise aspirations so that our students can move on from school and achieve success in a range of colleges and other post 16 providers.  We are proud of the achievements our students make, some of which are measurable such as improvements in attendance and making progress academically, but many are less quantifiable such as developing self-confidence and building self-esteem.

Our website gives an insight into life at Windlestone, if you require any further information please contact the school.
